In the absence of this knowledge, it will be impossible for you to recognize, stop, or curb an attack.
Hence, a working knowledge of what a 'threat' is all about, is necessary.
Now what is a 'Threat' ?
"A threat is the potential occurrence of a cyber-attack which can stop an organization from functioning properly, leading to less productivity."
It is sponsored by a vulnerability present in the organization network infrastructure, web application, website, or configuration files.
However, a threat to an organization don't just happen out of the blue. A threat can be caused by:
(1) Intentional acts
(2) Unintentional acts
Intentional acts are done intentionally. These acts can be carried out by a fired employee, disgruntled employee, hackers, criminals, etc.
Unintentional acts are not done intentionally. They can be caused by an unskilled administrator, untrained employees, lazy employees, etc.
Lastly, a threat, if not understood properly can bring about the destruction of an organization's most valuable asset.
